The Honourable Clément Gascon, C.C., Ad. E., named Companion of the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian honour

Woods is proud to announce that the Honourable Clément Gascon, C.C., Ad. E., one of its esteemed lawyers, has been named a Companion of the Order of Canada, the highest rank within the Order. As part of her announcement of 85 new appointments, including three Companions, on June 30, 2023, the Governor General, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, noted notably “his exceptional contributions to Canadian law and his deep commitment to destigmatizing mental illness, particularly within the legal community”.

The Order of Canada recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the nation, demonstrating the highest level of achievement, dedication, and service in various fields. As a Companion of the Order of Canada, the Honourable Clément Gascon, C.C., Ad. E., joins an exclusive group of distinguished individuals who have made remarkable contributions to various sectors, shaping the landscape of Canada and inspiring future generations. This esteemed honour is a testament to the Honourable Gascon’s unwavering commitment to justice and legal excellence, as well as his positive impact within our society.

Throughout his illustrious career of 17 years in the judiciary, including as justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, and his more than two decades in private practice, the Honourable Clément Gascon, C.C., Ad. E., has consistently displayed remarkable leadership, exceptional legal expertise, an unwavering dedication to law and justice, and a commitment to help reducing the stigma surrounding mental illnesses. This prestigious honor is a testament to his exceptional legal acumen, tireless dedication to serving our clients, and his unwavering commitment to upholding the principles of justice.
