The Honourable Clément Gascon Receives the CBA President’s Award

Woods is proud to announce that the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) has presented the Honourable Clément Gascon, Senior Counsel at Woods and former Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, with the CBA President’s Award at its virtual Annual General Meeting today. We are delighted that CBA President Steven Rotstein is recognizing the remarkable contribution of an outstanding jurist to the profession, the justice system and to mental health awareness in the profession. The Honourable Clément Gascon has had a profound influence on generations of lawyers and continues to impart his passion for the law in private practice and as a mentor, lecturer, and teacher.

The Honourable Clément Gascon was a judge of the Supreme Court of Canada for five years, of the Quebec Court of Appeal for two years, and of the Quebec Superior Court for close to ten years. He was a lawyer in private practice with a national law firm from his admission to the Quebec Bar in 1982 to his appointment to the bench in 2002.

During his career as a judge and as a lawyer, he taught and gave lectures regularly at McGill University, University of Ottawa, the Université du Québec à Montréal, and the Quebec Bar School. He also lectured and participated in seminars for judges and lawyers on commercial matters, class actions, legal writing and advocacy.  A highly regarded speaker, he is also the co-author of several books, publications, and articles in the legal domain.

He now devotes his practice to domestic and international arbitration and provides support and legal advice in insolvency and restructuring matters, as well as in general commercial litigation matters for the firm’s clients.
