Woods boasts a third Advocatus Emeritus with the Honourable Clément Gascon

Woods is pleased to announce that the Honourable Clément Gascon has been named Advocatus Emeritus (Ad. E.) by decision of the Quebec Bar Selection Committee. This honorary title highlights the exceptional contribution of certain lawyers to the advancement of the profession or the Bar’s activities, or their remarkable impact on social and community matters that have had an impact on the legal profession. The Honourable Clément Gascon joins the group of 429 current recipients among some 28,000 members of the Quebec Bar.

The Honourable Clément Gascon joined Woods team in 2020. He was a judge of the Supreme Court of Canada for five years, of the Quebec Court of Appeal for two years, and of the Quebec Superior Court for close to ten years. He was a lawyer in private practice with a national law firm from his admission to the Quebec Bar in 1982 to his appointment to the bench in 2002.

During his career as a judge and as a lawyer, he regularly taught and gave lectures at McGill University, Ottawa University, the Université du Québec à Montréal, and the Quebec Bar School. As well, he gave lectures and participated in seminars for judges and lawyers on commercial matters, class actions, legal writing and advocacy.  A highly regarded speaker, he is also the co-author of several books, publications and articles in the legal domain. 

With 17 years of expertise and experience as a member of the Canadian judiciary following 23 years as a member of the Quebec Bar, his current practice at Woods focuses on domestic and international arbitration. He also provides support and legal advice in insolvency and restructuring matters, as well as in general commercial litigation matters for the firm’s clients.

The Honourable Clément Gascon’s name is added to those of two other Advocatus Emeritus from Woods, namely: James A. Woods and the Honourable Joseph R. Nuss.
