Basma was a research assistant for several renowned professors at the University of Ottawa on a number of legal topics, including artificial intelligence law, constitutional law and international human rights law. She also served as a legal intern in the Senate of Canada, at the office of Senator Pierre J. Dalphond, and in a law firm in Dubai.  
 An active volunteer of the National Student Pro Bono Network and Lawyers Without Borders Canada, she actively engages in access to justice projects.
