Aliya Behar et Basma El Farouk, new lawyers at Woods
Woods is proud to announce that Aliya Behar and Basma El Farouk, who were recently sworn in, have chosen to pursue their careers in litigation with our team, building on the talent they demonstrated during their articling.
Aliya Behar is building a diverse litigation practice, enriched by the varied knowledge she developed during her articling in areas such as fraud, administrative law, defamation claims, and complex civil and commercial litigation. A double graduate of McGill University (B.C.L./J.D.), she developed remarkable versatility during her studies. Her journey includes a variety of roles, including research assistant at the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law, law clerk at the Superior Court of Quebec, participant in the Warren K. Winkler National Moot Court Competition on class actions, and professional experience at a firm specializing in intellectual property. These contributions have allowed her to expand her knowledge and consolidate her expertise.
Basma El Farouk specialises in civil and commercial litigation, covering contractual and extracontractual liability, class actions, fraud, labour law, and commercial and international arbitration. A graduate of the University of Ottawa, she holds a licence in civil law and a Juris Doctor, for which she received the Right Honourable Brian Dickson Award for the highest grade point average in the National Program (J.D./LL.L). She acquired her knowledge and skills through her academic career and professional experience, notably as a research assistant in artificial intelligence law, constitutional law and international human rights law, as well as through internships at the Senate of Canada and an international law firm in Dubai.
Woods is proud to welcome two promising new professionals to its team, reaffirming its commitment to building the next generation of legal talent from within the firm.
