Appointment of Alex Dobrota as Head of the Insolvency and Restructuring Team

The firm is pleased to announce the appointment of Bogdan-Alexandru (Alex) Dobrota as Head of the Insolvency and Restructuring Team.

Recognized for his expertise in complex commercial litigation, cross-border disputes, domestic and international insolvency matters, and international arbitration, Alex stands out for his strategic insight and deep understanding of the challenges specific to this field. His leadership will enable the firm to reinforce its position as a leading player in insolvency and restructuring in the Canadian legal market, while guiding the team and supporting our clients.

Identified among Canada’s leading insolvency practitioners in Lexpert Special Edition: Insolvency and Restructuring for a second consecutive year, Alex has represented various trustees and monitors in the context of large restructuring proceeding, including Richter in the context of the CCAA proceedings of Montreal Maine and Atlantic Railway and the notice of intention and bankruptcy proceedings of the Knightsbridge group of companies.

Alex has represented and advised creditors in the context of insolvency proceedings with a cross-border component, including the representation of a group of bondholders who contested the CCAA proceedings of Nemaska Lithium. He has also acted for several other prominent creditors, including NBC Universal Studios and Sandoz Canada.

His publications and reference works — including a chapter in Halsbury’s Laws of Canada on bankruptcy property and the order of distribution — are frequently cited by the courts. Alex also shares his expertise as an instructor of various courses at McGill University’s Faculty of Law, including the course “Advocacy.”
