The Honourable Clément Gascon Appointed Judge of the Administrative Tribunal of the International Labour Organization

Woods congratulates the Honourable Clément Gascon on his appointment as a judge of the Administrative Tribunal of the International Labour Organization for a five-year term beginning on July 1st, 2021. This appointment was announced at the 109th session of the International Labour Conference, which includes 187 member states. Consisting of seven judges of different nationalities, the Tribunal holds sessions of two to four weeks twice a year at the ILO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Honourable Gascon carries on the firm’s tradition of unwavering commitment to justice. This appointment highlights both his exceptional skills as a judge and his recognized expertise and experience in labour and employment law.

Clément Gascon has close to forty years of experience as a trial and appellate judge, culminating at the highest Court in Canada, and as a litigator in commercial law and labour and employment law. Now Senior Counsel at Woods, he brings his bilingual and bijuridical expertise to bear in advisory work with the firm’s attorneys and clients, as well as in resolving disputes through arbitration and mediation, domestically and internationally.

About the OIT

The heir of the Administrative Tribunal of the League of Nations created in 1927, the Administrative Tribunal of the ILO is the oldest international administrative tribunal. It adjudicates disputes arising out of contracts to which the ILO is a party, and which provide for its jurisdiction. It performs the same role for 57 other international organizations which recognize its final jurisdiction in this respect.
